Jyotish (Sanskrit: "science of light") originates in the Vedas. The foundational text — Parashara Hora Shastra — was composed over 5,000 years ago and remains the authoritative source for chart interpretation today.
Sidereal Zodiac & Nakshatras
Unlike Western astrology, Jyotish uses the actual positions of stars (sidereal zodiac). The sky is divided into 27 Nakshatras (lunar mansions) of 13°20′ each. Your Moon's Nakshatra is more significant than your Sun sign.
Mathematical Precision
Every chart calculation requires exact birth date, time, and place. The Ascendant (Lagna) shifts every ~2 hours. A 10-minute difference in birth time can change the entire house structure and life timing.

Dasha timeline derived
The Moon's position in its Nakshatra at birth determines your starting planetary period (Dasha). The Vimshottari system maps a 120-year cycle of 9 planetary periods — your personal life timeline.

The relevant divisional chart confirms or refines the D1 reading for the specific life area. A Varga can never override D1 — it adds depth, not a different story.
Ashtakavarga — Flow & Friction
